Step 1: Tell us about the house

If there is a settlement date or an underwriter’s deadline, say so first; the schedule gets built backward from it.
Step 2: Assessment and circuit tracing
We walk the house, open the panel, and trace what is actually live. Old houses always carry surprises: abandoned runs that look alive, live runs buried where nobody looked, splices from four renovations ago. Tracing converts the unknown into a labeled circuit map, and it regularly shrinks the job, because dead wire needs removal notes rather than replacement.
Step 3: A written quote, per circuit
The quote lists each circuit with its treatment and price, itemized against the published table on our cost guide: full rewire lines, partial-rescue lines, the panel upgrade, patching as its own honest line, and the $30 county permit. Where a cheaper partial scope genuinely meets your goal, it appears next to the full scope so you choose with the numbers visible.
Step 4: Permit, then the rewire
The Cecil County electrical permit files online against a Maryland master electrician’s license and processes in one to three weeks while scheduling proceeds. The rewire itself runs four to eight working days for a typical house: new grounded circuits fished through existing cavities, power maintained outside the active work, and the old knob and tube disconnected and documented.
Step 5: Inspection and the paper package
The crew meets the county inspector and closes the permit. You end with the passed inspection on record, photographs of the completed work, and a statement of what was replaced: exactly the package underwriters, lenders, and future buyers ask for.
